Education is at the core of PJB’s mission. Each and every player registered with PJB is required to attend school, and opportunities within PJB are dependent upon school performance and attendance.

PJB Scholarship Program

At PJB we understand that access to good education is the only way for positive change and development within the DRC. Our scholarship program gives our players the opportunity to obtain their school and book fees through discipline, hard work, team spirit and respect.

Life-skills Curriculum

Basketball is an efficient and effective vehicle in instilling character and values essential for positive change. PJB has developed a life-skills curriculum to enhance the development of these character traits and values so that each and every member of PJB is conscious and informed as leaders in their communities.

PJB players, staff, and parents all took part in the formation of the life-skills curriculum to tailor each lesson to the needs and desires of the Goma community. Each and every lesson is tailored to target the youth of Goma. Lessons take place both on and off the basketball court.

The five overlaying themes of the Life-skills curriculum are:

  • Personal Development
  • Interpersonal Communication
  • Collaboration and Cooperation
  • Professional Development
  • Problem Solving and Critical Thinking

Community Leadership

At PJB we aim to develop great basketball players.  More importantly we aim to instill in our athletes the qualities to become leaders in their communities. It is PJB’s hope that all the young people playing the courts will become front-runners in their community, in Goma, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and in Africa.

PJB is a proud member of Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots program. Roots & Shoots is a youth-led community action program that is inspired by famous primatologist and UN Messenger of Peace, Jane Goodall. This leadership program is active in 130 countries, and has over 150,000 member.

PJB, being a Roots & Shoots program, helps to empower the youth of Goma to address the issues of their community in an informed way. It is also the focus of Roots & Shoots to teach young leaders to interact in a sustainable and conscious way with their environment.
